AtDisability Support Services (DSS) we provide support to people who havedisabilities to live lives that reflect their personal aspirations and choices.DSS provides support to over 250 people in a variety of residential settingsacross the Nelson/Tasman and Marlborough regions.
Inresidential and work environments we supporteach person to manage their day to day lives in ways and at times that work forthem. The people we support have a wide range of abilities. Some people needsupport with their personal care and taking care of household tasks; some needsupport to participate in their local communities and some need communicationand behavioural support. Wealso work to provide family/whanau time to re-energise and spend time withother important people, while their child stays in one of our respite houses. We actively encourage people to pursue theirdreams and try out new experiences, and can guarantee that no two days workingat DSS are ever the same.
We alsowork collaboratively and in partnership with Mental Health and Addictions,Youth Justice, Oranga Tamariki, and other community organisations to meet theneeds of people we support.
N.B. Disability Support Services are part ofNelson Marlborough Health, we are not however a medical/clinical service. We are a community based disability support service focused on quality of lifeoutcomes and the Enabling Good Lives Principles.

This is a permanent part timeposition working 20 hours a fortnight (0.25FTE).

Shift:4.00PM to 9.00PM every Sunday and Monday.

Weare looking for people with a can-do attitude, who can work with children andadults as part of a proactive support team. You will follow individual plansand understand the importance of consistency in assisting people to achieve agreat life.
We’relooking for people who have:
A sense of humour
Good social skills and the ability to relate well to others
The ability to work with people who present with challenging behaviours
Diversity to work with a range of people with differing levels of support needs
The ability to maintain confidentiality, be tactful and sensitive in dealing with people
Commitment to professional development
An ability to work actively as part of a team and individually to ensure service quality
Good English language ability (written and spoken)
Basic maths and computing skills
Confidence in assisting with personal cares
Energy and enthusiasm
A current full driver’s licence (preferably to drive both automatic and manual vehicles).
Yourhourly rate will be $20.50 to $25.50 dependent upon your qualifications asrecognised under the Care and Support Workers (Pay Equity) Settlement Act 2017.
Thisposition is classified by Immigration as ANZSCO 423111 and applicants for thisposition must be NZ or Australian Citizens, or have NZ Permanent Residency, ora valid NZ work visa.
