Details of the offer

The Big Picture
Biomatters develops beautiful, user-friendly software solutions that empower researchers to turn data into actionable insights. We are the creators of Geneious, one of the leading bioinformatics solutions internationally, used by thousands of organisations from big pharma developing life saving therapeutics through to researchers in universities unravelling the mysteries of life. As we grow and expand our product offerings, our systems and processes become more complex. We are building out a new team with a focus on product operations: shared services that support our product growth, and integrate our product with our back office systems. Come and join our friendly yet passionate team in our central Auckland location.
Where do you fit in?
Our customer base is growing fast, creating the opportunity for a new Support Scientist to join our customer support team.
We create bioinformatics solutions for the analysis, interpretation and application of molecular sequence data. We specialize in creating powerful, integrated and visually appealing production bioinformatics solutions with a strong emphasis on ease of use and overall user experience.
Our customers rate the quality of our support services very highly. You will be working alongside our sales, marketing and product development teams to support our customers across the globe.
Your role will involve:
Applying your technical and biologic skills and experience to resolve support issues raised by our customers - via email, phone and our online user forums;
Maintaining and updating our online knowledge bases, product user manuals and product tutorials, including creating new ones;
Assisting our sales, marketing and other customer-facing staff with preparation of content for customer communications, marketing collateral, conference and trade show material and presentations;
Staying abreast of our product roadmaps, software release cycles, and providing feedback into these processes based on knowledge gained from supporting our customers;
Applying your skills and experience to professional service tasks (training, documentation, consulting, custom development, etc.).
We are looking specifically for the following...
Masters or higher level qualification in bioinformatics and/or biological sciences (or equivalent work experience);
A degree of comfort with Java-based development technologies;
Ability to learn new technical skills when required;
good communication skills and customer empathy;
problem solving and documentation (technical writing) skills;
Knowledge of new sequencing technologies and bioinformatics pipelines;
You must be able to attend interviews in person (Auckland, New Zealand).
Working at Biomatters
We actively welcome your perspective because we want to be supportive in your journey to create, code or co-ordinate your ideas into real-world projects that will benefit our customers and your career. We believe in giving people the chance to sink into a challenge and get stuff done.
We are a down-to-earth and honest bunch, and while we're often in t-shirts, we encourage each other's ambitions. Once an employee joins Biomatters, they tend to stick around.
Why? Because we:
Are building software that we believe will meaningfully make the world a better place by contributing to primary scientific research and improving human health.
Have an open-plan culture where you can chat with the CEO or anyone else.
Allow for very flexible working arrangements.
Offer health, life and critical illness insurance.
Take care of you with fresh fruit delivered twice a week, a well-stocked drinks fridge and a proper espresso machine.
Hold “EvoLab” days, where everyone in the company can work on anything they believe will evolve Biomatters (and the world) into a better place.
We are an equal opportunity employer and value diversity at our company. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, colour, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, or disability status.
Insightful Science
