Support Carer - Part Time - Wellington

This friendly employer is seeking a male in-home support caregiver for Saturdays working in Brooklyn.
Hours: The primary role is for approximately 6 hours every Saturday. You will work alongside another support carer. There may be additional shifts available, and during term breaks, including the summer break, there is potentially weekday shifts available.
You will be supporting a 20 year old young man with Autism and Intellectual disability, who has some limited language. He is physically capable but with limited understanding. You will be a friend, mentor and carer for this young man who relates best with male role models. Payrate is $20.50 per hour, increasing to $22.50 once you are fully trained.To apply, you will need: Patience A caring and calm nature Physical confidence and strength A self-motivated and engaging personality Some skills with food preparation
He is a mostly settled happy young man who loves to hang out with his Carers watching DVDs, lying around YouTubing on his iPad, going for drives, or having water fun in the garden.
He has a lovely personality, and can be funny and engaging, however he sadly experiences high levels of anxiety which can sometimes escalate into meltdowns (panic attacks) during which you will need to manage him in a calm supportive way, including some physical support. This young man is just over 6ft tall and strong, so it is important that you are able to match his physicality. The job will also involve personal care responsibilities: showering, dressing and incontinence care. Full training will be provided by parents and other workers.
For safety reasons, applicants who are of a similar height and who are very confident in their physical strength are welcome to apply.An understanding of Autism and some prior experience in disability support or childcare is essential though comprehensive training will be provided while working alongside a parent and other support workers. Also good character references will be required due to the client's vulnerability.
