We are looking for a number of Stevedores. The position of a Stevedore at the Ports of Auckland includes several roles. All of these roles are critical in the safe and efficient movement of cargo. There is no port without Stevedores; they are the core of our container handling operations.
The roles currently being recruited for are:
Lasher
A Lasher is responsible for securing and releasing the equipment on board a ship that secures containers for safe transportation. This physically demanding role involves heavy lifting and is absolutely key for operations.
Reach Stacker Operator
Driving a Reach Stacker, a specialised piece of container handling equipment, you will be unloading, loading and securing containers onto rail carriages, along with moving containers to various points of the port.
Straddle Carrier Operator
A Straddle Driver’s core function is to move containers from one area of the container terminal to another. This can be between the yard, crane, and trucks. The operator sits approximately 11.5 metres from the ground and the driver’s cab is accessible by climbing a ladder, so a decent level of fitness and a good head for heights is a must. Basic computer skills is needed to use the on-board computer, along with good spatial awareness.
Ship-to-Shore Crane Operator
A Crane Operator’s responsibility is to load and discharge vessels with containers and other cargo using a quay crane. The role involves reading vessel plans and load/discharge sheets. Good hand-eye coordination is required, along with good spatial awareness and a solid head for heights as the office view is approximately 37 metres in the air. Previous experience operating ZPMC Ship-to-Shore cranes will be an advantage.
For each of these roles, you need to:
Have health and safety as a priority
Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and nights
Good verbal communication skills
Work as part of a team
For the operator positions:
A minimum full class one drivers licence
