This position is based in Hamilton. The day to day work for the position is in the Hauraki, Thames and Coromandel area and the successful applicant may be able to work from the Ministry’s office in Thames.
The position is full-time but we also encourage applications from those interested in part-time employment.
The Special Education Adviser will provide learning support services to schools and kura for students accessing Ministry of Education Learning Support specialist services. The focus will be on supporting inclusive practices and curriculum differentiation for students accessing the Ongoing Resourcing Scheme.
The role of a Special Education Adviser includes the following:
Working collaboratively with the inter-disciplinary team around the child, including educators, parents, caregivers and whanau to enhance understanding about the child and their learning needs
Working with the team to develop, implement and monitor an effective individual educational plan
Supporting and advising teachers, kaiako and other school staff to ensure that the child is confidently included in all aspects of school life
You will need the following:
An ability and willingness to work in collaborative partnership with other professionals, agencies, families and the sector
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including an ability to sustain productive professional relationships
A genuine commitment to evidence based interventions which demonstrate inclusive education practice
To bea qualified and fully registered NZ teacher
Sensitivity to cultural and ethnic diversity and a commitment to Te Tiriti o Wa itangi
A knowledge of Te Reo me ona Tikanga and previous successful engagement with Maori is highly desirable
Additional qualifications in learning support and experience in the NZ education system would be an advantage.
