Social Worker - Youth Justice
2 X Full Time, Permanent, Christchurch East and West. Do you want direct and meaningful relationship with tamariki and rangatahi, supporting them to move beyond the criminal justice system. About us:Oranga Tamariki—Ministry for children work with the most at risk tamariki and rangatahi in New Zealand. Oranga Tamariki works to advance the wellbeing and positive long-term outcomes of children and young people. In everything we do, the wellbeing and best-interests of our young people is vital. The voices of tamariki and rangatahi underpin the design and operation of our services Our Youth Justice Social Workers are the key people who work with young people, their whanau, police, youth advocates and essential government and community support services when a young person has committed a serious offence.
Christchurch Youth Justice is looking for enthusiastic, qualified Social Workers who can help us by engaging with whanau and rangatahi to support them to change their current behaviours and develop plans for their future. You will be someone who can ensure rangatahi voices are heard and whanau are empowered to be actively engage in preventative measures, family group conferences and court proceedings.
Part of your role to achieve these outcomes will be by completing assessments, working with our rangatahi to create plans and by partnering with other agencies and stakeholders to get wrap around support in place for them. Your role will also include supporting whanau and rangatahi in Te Kooti Rangatahi.

To be successful, you will need:
A qualification in social work recognised by the Social Work Registration Board (SWRB)
Continuation of SWRB registration with a current APC or working towards gaining registration
Excellent relationship building skills
A high degree of both verbal and written communication skills (you will need to write court reports)
A commitment to bi-cultural practice and a culturally responsive approach (a good understanding of Tikanga and te reo Maori advantageous)
A demonstrated understanding of Whakapapa, Mana Tamaiti and Whanaungatanga.
A full clean valid driver licence
