The Team
We are looking for an experienced Social worker to join our School Based Mental Health team to actively promote positive mental health outcomes for the children and youth of Canterbury.
Working pro-actively within school communities this work involves supporting the whole of the school, including staff, pastoral care teams, students, families and caregivers in a targeted and negotiated manner.
This role gives you the opportunity to work within a cohesive MDT that provides a proactive, collaborative outreach service supporting schools in addressing the emerging child and youth mental health issues through engagement, consultation and providing evidence based interventions. Working in conjunction with the Ministry of Education, Mana Ake, various NGO's and community agencies you will facilitate interventions to reduce anxiety, encourage engagement, build resiliency and provide other support or referral as required.
We currently have two vacancies available, a 1.0FTE full-time position and a 0.5FTE part-time position.Please clearly indicate in your cover letter the position that you are applying for.Flexibility in hours is required for these positions as you will occasionally be required to deliver presentations outside of standard work hours.
The Role
In this role, you will be responsible for:
providing case management, comprehensive assessment and clinical interventions to young people
effectively managing a caseload with regular reviews and job planning with the Clinical Manager
working collaboratively with external agencies striving for better health outcomes in our community.

Experience and skills required:
Experience in mental health and working with children/adolescents
Motivated and flexible self-starter with the ability to work both in a team and autonomously
Genuine interest in the mental health of children/adolescents and their family/whanau
Excellent interpersonal skills, support and empathy for your young clients
Ability to build, strong effective relationships with children/young adults and with our many community partners/agencies with whom you liaise
NZ registration as a Social Worker with current APC is essential
A minimum of two years' experience working in Child and Adolescent Mental Health
A current NZ driver's licence is also essential as you will be required to travel within the Christchurch area
