Details of the offer

Wellington is growing significantly. By 2050 our city will have grown by at least 50,000 inhabitants, with a projected total population of up to 280,000. To accommodate all of these new Wellingtonians we need to develop our city. In early 2019 we asked Wellingtonians how we should accommodate this growth. The results of this Our City Tomorrow engagement set a clear direction for increasing density in our central area and suburbs, but not at the detriment to environmental or social well-being. Wellington's development and growth should be compact, inclusive, connected, greener, resilient, vibrant and prosperous.
Are you an experienced, agile and focused urbanist who is passionate about cities and how people use them? Can you help us meet the aspirational expectations and ambitious goals that Wellingtonians are setting for the future growth and development of our city? We are looking for a Senior Urban Designer with best-practice urban design and project management skills to join our Urban Design Team within the Council. This will include leading and contributing to essential projects within the Public Space Delivery workstream, championing a 'design led' approach, helping to establish best practice project management and delivery, as well as working collaboratively on various urban design tasks across the business unit and council as well as with development partners. These various aspects of the role interrelate to help ensure that Wellington's future growth meets the ambitious goals of Our City Tomorrow, and that this growth is held to best-practice urban design standards. The Council values and celebrates the uniquely compact and vibrant qualities of Wellington and is committed to best-practice built and natural environment outcomes.
The successful applicant will have proven urban design and project management skills; a flexible and collaborate approach to working, and qualifications in a relevant urban design related field such as urban design, landscape architecture, architecture or a related degree. 5+ years' experience in a relevant field is required. Experience in project management and willingness to project manage is also a requirement.
To be successful in this role, the applicant will have strong demonstrable knowledge of and experience in the following:

Best-practice urban design
Strategic and creative thinking
Project management
Problem solving and collaborative working models
The ability to integrate advice and information to reach solutions
Graphic, written and oral communication skills
Engagement and stakeholder management
Customer service
Knowledge of the Resource Management Act (RMA)
Knowledge of the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi

For more information please contact Crystal Filep, Urban Design Manager, **********
Applications close Sunday, 29 March 2020.
We're looking for people who share our passion for Wellington and have the same values that we do - to make our city an even better place to live and work.
