Auckland Council is seeking a Senior Pollution Specialist to manage pollution issues under the Resource Management Act.
With a rise in environmental complaints—especially following recent flooding and cyclones—this role is crucial in investigating breaches, ensuring compliance, and protecting Auckland's natural environment.
This role will include oversight, guidance, and response to priority complaints in regard to the Resource Management Act.In this role, you will:Lead complex environmental investigations across the region, ensuring compliance under the RMAProvide expert advice and training on pollution response and enforcement to staff and industry professionalsLead pollution investigations, including water sampling and compliance monitoring, to assess environmental impacts and ensure adherence to statutory requirementsEnforce regulations, often leading to prosecutions under the Resource Management Act (RMA)Take enforcement action when necessary to mitigate environmental harm and support sustainable development while reducing pollution risksWe're looking for an experienced professional with:A background in environmental science, investigations, or compliance (preferably with water sampling and enforcement experience)Expert knowledge of the RMA, plus the Building Act and Local Government ActStrong problem-solving, investigation, and decision-making skillsExcellent communication and relationship-building abilities5-7 years' experience in a compliance or regulatory environmentA current full NZ Driver's LicenseThis is an exciting opportunity to join a supportive and proactive team dedicated to protecting Auckland's environment.
