The Salvation Army Social Policy and Parliamentary Unit works toward the eradication of poverty by encouraging policies and practices that strengthen the social framework of New Zealand. They provide solid social research and robust policy analysis, engaging with national opinion makers in politics, government, business, media and education.
The Senior Policy Analyst takes a lead role with the Principal Policy Analyst in analysing and developing social and economic policy documents and communications, which address poverty and social disadvantage in New Zealand.
Based in Manukau, Auckland, this full-time role requires an exceptional individual who is experienced, competent and confident, highly resourceful and able to lead projects and deliver rigorous critique in an engaging manner. The Unit has a particular focus on five main work areas: housing, work and incomes, children and young people, social hazards, crime and punishment. The successful applicant will be expected to contribute across all work areas, whilst developing particular areas of expertise.
This role will include monitoring the government’s legislative programme to identify legislation relevant to The Salvation Army and the purpose of the Unit.

If you’re experienced and love researching, writing reports and producing submission that have the power to influence change in New Zealand, we are looking for you. You will have an appreciation and commitment to the Christian ethos that motivates the work of The Salvation Army and your tertiary qualification will be relevant to their work, and provide a discipline that enables you to present policy work that is convincing.
You will also be able to develop good advocacy networks and collaborate with other relevant partners on critical campaigns and advocacy projects for issues relevant to the Unit’s and The Salvation Army’s mission.
You might not actually be a political junkie but you will have recent experience and knowledge around the functions of government.
This role suits a team player who thrives on day-to-day variety and the pressure of tight deadlines. The successful applicant will be both self-motivated and a team player, with leadership experience in the community.
