As a Regional Council we're responsible for flood protection, public transport, civil defence, and more. This role works closely with our multi-skilled teams of scientists, consent planners, and enforcement officers, and with Zone Committees and public groups, to address challenging issues including sustainable resource use and achieving ecological health of our waterways. A strong scientific background will guide you in leading the analysis, interpretation, presentation and reporting of our data and information to decision-makers, tangata whenua, and our community. You'll define key research questions and lead scientific investigations and monitoring programmes to respond to key issues. You'll provide high-quality and timely technical advice to our consents, compliance, and planning teams.  You'll ideally have a master's degree or higher in aquatic ecology with at least 2 years of professional experience or a bachelor's degree in aquatic ecology with five years of professional experience . Your solid technical background will stand out as you interpret scientific data to a wide range of audiences including tangata whenua, community, and decision-makers. You'll have experience in freshwater ecology, including an understanding of our freshwater fish and invertebrate communities and their habitats along with experience in aquatic macroinvertebrate and fish monitoring in New Zealand. More about you: Proven track record with defining research questions and designing and implementing collaborative investigation and monitoring programmes, Excellent writing and oral skills for a range of audiences, Excellent relationship building skills, Great team player, mentor and collaborator, Understanding of and commitment to honouring tikanga and Te Tiriti o Waitangi combined with experience of incorporating te ao Maori perspectives into science delivery. This is a full-time permanent position, 40 hours per week in Christchurch. The indicative salary range is $95,000 to $106,000 depending on your experience and qualifications.
