Are you an experienced policy professional with an interest in the growing practice of regulatory stewardship?
Do you enjoy a role that connects with teams across a large and diverse organisation and that supports flexible working arrangements?
Can you apply your well-developed policy and project management skills to ensuring MPI's regulatory stewardship is the best in the public sector?

We'd love to talk to you!
Mo to matou ropu-About our team
The Ministry for Primary Industries is responsible for managing regulatory systems across biosecurity, food safety, fisheries, forestry, animal welfare and agriculture. Together these systems underpin the health and vibrancy of our primary sector export economy, environment, rural communities and food producing sectors.
The MPI Treaty Capability, Policy Capability and Regulatory Stewardship team sits within the wider Food, Skills and Science Policy Directorate, in the Policy and Trade branch of MPI. The team:
Assists MPI to ensure its regulatory systems are of sound quality and meet government requirements and expectations;
Supports the development of policy advisers within MPI and coordinates policy quality assurance and measurement processes; and
Supports MPI Policy and Trade Branch's capability to apply Treaty of Waitangi principles and jurisprudence to policy development and partnership with Maori.

We are a small diverse team with a passion for demonstrating and promoting the skills and professionalism to underpin sound policy practice for the primary sector in Aotearoa New Zealand.
Korero mo te turanga-About the role
We are looking for an experienced senior policy analyst to join our team to work on the systems and capability that underpin MPI's regulatory stewardship and maintaining and improving MPI's regulatory systems. You may have experience working in a regulatory policy environment or have a great understanding of the importance of regulatory stewardship to the wellbeing of our society, economy and government, and be ready to expand your skills.
You will be responsible for conducting periodic assessments of MPI's regulatory systems, supporting cross-agency and inter-agency regulatory stewardship relationships and forums, and MPI's regulatory impact analysis capability. You will be a key liaison with Treasury's regulatory quality team and keep across any potential changes to government-wide regulatory reporting obligations, such as the resilience of regulatory systems in the context of climate change.
You may also be called upon to help with MPI's policy capability work, supporting our Policy and Trade Branch to enhance capability in regulatory impact analysis and regulation development, as well as other areas.
We are looking for candidates with advanced written communication skills, who can quickly understand complex issues and provide high quality advice to decision makers. We value a collaborative style, resilience, and the ability to build relationships within our agency and with other government agencies.
