The Otago Business School’s Department of Information Science, in partnership with the Otago Medical School, is launching two new online postgraduate programmes in Digital Health in 2021. We are seeking to appoint a Senior Lecturer to lead the next stage of development and delivery of these programmes.
The University of Otago is a research-intensive university ranked in the top 1% in the QS World University ranking. The Otago Business School and Computing at Otago are both ranked #1 in New Zealand for research.
The University of Otago Medical School, is New Zealand’s first medical school, and one of the top ranked medical schools in the world. The School’s vision is to push the boundaries of medicine, science, education, health care delivery and to improve the health of communities in New Zealand and internationally.
The role
The main focus of the position is to develop and deliver courses in the University’s new online postgraduate certificate and postgraduate diploma programmes in Digital Health. With the construction of Dunedin’s new digitally enabled hospital in the next decade this initiative presents an exciting opportunity for digital health research and practice in the region, including working in partnership with health care providers and industry.
The Senior Lecturer in Digital Health will participate fully in the Department’s research and teaching activities. This includes maintaining a programme of high quality research and publication, teaching courses in digital health and other Information Science courses as well as supervising undergraduate and graduate research projects.
As the programmes are to be delivered online, the role will not necessarily be based in Dunedin. The successful candidate will however be expected to spend some time in Dunedin.

Skills and experience

The successful candidate will be a forward-thinking active researcher with an internationally recognised and proven record of research accomplishment.
In addition, you will have an understanding of the New Zealand Healthcare system and:
• Hold a PhD in a relevant field.
• Possess excellent teaching skills and have experience in online education at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
• Have excellent interpersonal skills and possess sensitivity and understanding towards differing cultures and personalities.
• Have a strong commitment to developing collaborative working relationships with colleagues.
This role may also suit a Clinician who holds a part-time clinical role in an aligned area of practice.
