Senior House Officer - Commencement May 2020

Whanganui District Health Board (Whanganui)

Senior House Officer - Commencement May 2020

Details of the offer

Whanganui District Health Board is seeking applications for the above role from suitably qualified Senior House Officers. To apply for this role you must be a PGY2 House Officer or a Senior House Officer, eligible to work nights and have a current practising certificate.
Our hospital serves a population of approximately 60,000, performing 4,000 procedures annually in three elective theatres and one acute theatre. We have a total of 46 RMOs working in General Medicine, Mental Health, Emergency, General Surgery, Orthopaedics, O&G, Paediatrics, and Anaesthetic Departments and as relievers. These positions do include night and weekend shifts on a rotating roster.
The bonus of coming to Whanganui DHB as opposed to a larger DHB, is that all House Officers are given the opportunity to work directly with senior consultants in all departments. Our DHB strongly supports training opportunities and a variety of experiences which can assist you with making future career choices - and some of our SHO's are given the opportunity to move into non-training registrar positions. As testimony to this, the following are comments received from one of our House Officers regarding training at WDHB -"Also wanted to let you know that the ELS course was superb! So thank you very much for the exposure that we get as junior doctors here!"
Whanganui is situated on the west coast of New Zealand's lower North Island. It's location on the historically significant and beautiful Whanganui River, and close proximity to the mountains, makes it ideal for tramping, skiing, fishing and a variety of outdoor adventure pursuits. Whanganui proudly boasts a heritage rich in arts and culture, and excellent educational and sports training facilities. We offer a relaxed lifestyle, affordable housing, an easy commute to work, and an easy two-and-a-half hour drive to New Zealand's capital city, Wellington.
Whatever your interests, Whanganui can offer an excellent work / lifestyle balance.
