Christchurch, CanterburyPermanentThe primary purpose of this position is to act as a senior estimator for HEB Southern (Civil) and be responsible for the overall estimating of submissions to win profitable work.
THE ROLE:
Act as estimating leader for tenders assigned
Analyse tender documentation and correspondence in detail to determine the tender requirement
Determine subcontractors and suppliers to approach, the details required to be sent out, when bids/offers should close etc.
Understand and input into the planned construction methodologies to enable estimates to be accurately prepared
Visit sites and assess local site conditions, provide input to the delivery programme and methodology
Participate in tender workshops
Manage designers' inputs as required for estimating
Actively participate in Risk and Opportunities workshops and identify areas where HEB can gain an advantage. (Alternatives, areas of expertise)
Prepare and/or check the schedule of quantities ensuring completeness and accuracy.
Prepare estimates typically applying a first principles approach
Liaise with HEB commercial manager for insurance requirements for inclusion in tenders
Communicate with operations manager / bid manager / general manger as appropriate to determine project staff for key roles
Engage with project staff for input into methodologies and productivity
Coordinate with bid team to ensure methodologies, programme of works, personnel designated, etc. are the same for the attributes as for the tender offer.
Prepare tags and conditions for incorporation into the tender
Prepare for, and facilitate estimate reviews in accordance with the company levels of authority
Negotiate conditions & price post tender in conjunction with the general manager (or other with delegated authority)
THE CANDIDATE:
Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university;
A formal Project Management qualification is desirable.
Significant post qualification experience in the Project Management of water/infrastructural projects

Relevant experience of the transport (road/rail), water and general civil infrastructure projects.
