Details of the offer

Join the team that unlocks information to help keep communities safe.
The Customs Electronic Forensics Unit use advanced methods to examine electronic media and devices, and recover digital evidence that helps take criminals out of our communities. We're looking for an experienced electronic and digital forensics specialist to join the Electronic Forensic Unit (EFU) and who will work closely with the Customs Child Exploitation Operations Team (CEOT).
You need to be quick thinking, with a diagnostic mind, and can use the latest technologies and digital tools. A knowledge of and background in electronic or digital forensics and experience in the field are a must. Ideally, you'll also have a background in or exposure to preventing child exploitation, although this is not essential.
As well as your technical skills, you'll need to be methodical and dedicated to working to a high standard, and with the utmost discretion and care. Levelheadedness and sound judgement are important - you'll use these to handle sensitive information and situations well, and stay calm and composed in challenging situations. You'll need to be good at explaining technical terms in a way that even your grandparents could understand.
You will:
Lead operational activity out in the field
Examine electronic forensic images and content and recover digital evidence
Manage evidence and prepare files to an evidential standard
Be a recognised court expert. This means writing clear and accurate reports, and being a confident public speaker.
Be accredited as a forensic professional.

The EFU team deals with confronting information and images, including objectionable material that exploits children. You'll need resilience and the ability to separate your job from the rest of your life, leaving work at the door when you go home. We have strong support systems in place for our teams.
This is a Senior Customs Officer, Grade 2 position and your office will be based in central Auckland, although you will also be out in the field and working in diverse environments, and at times unpredictable hours. You'll work with a team of pros in Customs and across other agencies in scenarios beyond anything you'd encounter in your usual nine-to-five.
We are looking for people who care about their team and work well with others - you're approachable, supportive and willing to help. You will be an experienced technical coach and mentor.
Security Requirements
You will need to obtain Top Secret level national security clearance. To achieve Top Secret clearance, you must have resided in New Zealand, Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom or the United States continuously for the last 10 years. Already having a Top Secret clearance is a benefit, but not a requirement. We'll guide you through the process for gaining the necessary clearance.
Working at Customs
Our people get on-the-job training, formal courses and leadership programmes, and the chance to move across diverse roles. We foster an inclusive and supportive team environment with vibrant social and cultural groups. We also support flexible working - talk to us about how we can help you achieve your flexible working goals within our operational requirements.
Our people get discounted health insurance, free on-site gyms (in some locations) and three days of service holidays in addition to four weeks of annual leave.
