Auckland City, AucklandResearch Nurse (SHIVERS study), Auckland City HospitalCloses 14 Apr 2020Posted 01 Apr 2020Fixed term, full-time or part-time, Monday to Friday role starts 4th May 2020 until end of October 2020Work in a speciality role with local and global impact, by contributing to the Southern Hemisphere Influenza and Vaccine Effectiveness Research Surveillance (SHIVERS) study.SHIVERS is part of the Ministry of Health Influenza surveillance program, helping to improve international knowledge of prevention and treatment of influenza and other respiratory illnesses, by looking at what proportion of the population is hospitalised with flu-like illnesses, how many of those patients have influenza, which groups are hardest hit, how often influenza is the underlying cause of death, and how effective influenza vaccines are among the population.Your day-to-day tasks would include: • Screening all new admissions for respiratory/influenza-like symptoms from provided admissions lists and creating a screening log, determining those who fit the criteria for interviewing • Visiting the relevant wards to interview patients • Liaising with ward staff to confirm appropriateness of interviews/timing, Education to ward staff about the purpose of the study • Point of care testing such as nasopharyngeal swabs • Following correct precautions and protocols at all times and able to educate others on the same including staff, patients • Using ADHB computer systems such as Concerto to follow up on patient outcomes and test results • Data entry into web-based Case Report Form for each patient interviewedYour excellent analysis, communication, problem solving skills and attention to detail are essential in order to obtain this data, enter it and interpret it effectively. You will be able to work autonomously, with ward teams, and as part of a supportive senior nursing team committed to effective/evidenced based nursing practice.You will receive full training as part of your orientation.The role is Mon - Fri daytime hours.
