conjunction with the Team Leader and Director of Research Ethics,respond in a timely manner to complaints pertaining to ethicalmatters.Information and • As the subject matter expert, use knowledge of all relevant codes,Advisory Service policies, procedures and guidelines to deliver information, advice andguidance to researchers and research supervisors.Provide first line advice and triage regarding relevant policy,legislation and guideline requirements for research ethics.Provide guidance on specific requirements, support researchers withthe submission of applications and advise on other procedural andprocess-based queries.Keep up-to-date with research and human ethics research trends andconsider implications for policy-setting, service design and humanethics administration.Act as a point of contact for media, OIA and public enquiriesregarding human ethics matters and direct to appropriate UniversityUnit and personnel.Provide a drop-in service for researchers on the Auckland campus toaid and assist researchers with the submission of human ethicsapplications in RIMS.Apply knowledge of the Massey University Code of Ethical ConductLow Risk Research for Teaching, Research and Evaluations involving Human Participantsto review, assess and evaluate notifications for level of risk,completion of project information and compliance with relevantpolicies, procedures and regulations.In conjunction with Human Ethics Chairs and other Research Ethicsteam members, contribute to planned audit meetings to ensureresearcher adherence to low risk criteria.CommitteeAdministrationMaintain an awareness of research reviewed by the Human EthicsCommittees and an understanding of internal/external policy affectingthe operation of the committee in order to advise the Chair andcommittee members on matters of compliance and legal obligation.Coordinate, arrange and manage committee meetings, inclusive ofagenda preparation, correspondence and distribution of meetingpapers.Receive, evaluate and check all applications for completeness.Review and analyse applications prior to meetings.4Provide comprehensive minutes, precise records of key discussionpoints and committee decisions and outcomes.Inform research applicants of committee requirements andrecommendations in a timely manner.Ensure all review and response timeframes are met.Facilitate payment of external committee members and maintaincommittee expenditure within budget.Manage room bookings and other matters supporting the operation ofthe committee and other additional meetings.Manage all matters pertaining to the appointment of new committeemembers.Assist with other duties that may be required as a result of changingpriorities or additional responsibilities placed on the Human EthicsCommittee.Systems Support • Maintain systems that accurately record all matters associated withthe Human Ethics Committee.Maintain detailed, accurate database records of all human ethicsresearch for annual reporting and audit purposes.Contribute to ongoing development and refinement of systems usedin the submission of ethics applications and where relevant, contributeto the development, testing and implementation of new systems andupgrades that support researchers, research ethics reporting andcommittee functions.Review the human ethics submissions in the RIMS system and liaisewith researchers on a regular basis to ensure incomplete and/orerroneous submissions are removed and the integrity of systeminformation is maintained.Annual Reporting • Prepare annual reports for submission to external accrediting bodiesand internal governance framework.Create and maintain extensive database records of all human ethicsresearch, teaching and evaluation studies undertaken by staff,students and researchers for annual reporting and audit purposes.Contribute as a member of the Research Ethics Team by participatingTeamwork in meetings, covering for others during peak ties or absences andundertaking other activities as requested by the Team Leader.Participate in special projects, as required.Work actively to promote a collaborative team environment.Act professionally, ethically and responsibly in all matters relating towork role activities.Qualifications and ExperienceQualifications: A tertiary qualification is desirable or equivalent experience in researchethics, office and/or committee managementExperience: • Knowledge of tertiary education structuresExperience working with university systems and personnel within anadvisory capacitySignificant experience in administration is essential, preferably in thetertiary sector5Previous experience with committee support, including proficiency inminute-taking and review of complex documentsExperience working in a team while demonstrating ability to self-manage in areas of designated responsibilitiesFamiliarity with database systems is desirableProficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and ability to easily adapt to otherIT systemsCapabilities:Essential • Willingness to develop a working knowledge of the Massey University Code of Ethical Conduct for Research,
