Southern DHB has an opportunity for a Rehabilitation Specialist to live and work in a part of the world renowned for lifestyle and work life balance while working with a dedicated team of likeminded health care professionals. A team who together get the job done, who are there for each other and enjoy getting to know their patients, family, and the communities in which they live. This part time (0.6-0.95FTE) position is to undertake a fixed-term parental leave at Dunedin hospital from September 2019 for six months.
Working in our Regional Inpatient Rehabilitation ward you will provide specialist rehabilitation services to people with physical and neurological disabilities who are generally aged between 16 and 65. We have a strong focus on interdisciplinary rehabilitation which is patient goal centred within a family/whanau and community framework. Liaison with other hospital specialties and being an effective member of our MDT is an essential component of our successful management of complex health issues.
Our objective is to enable patients to achieve the highest possible level of independence and the services operate with an emphasis on the following:
Promoting wellness, independence and participation
Close liaison with community services
Using a multi-disciplinary team approach

As we have close links to the University of Otago's School of Medicine part of your role will include teaching and we envisage the successful candidate to be committed to the teaching of medical students, and working with junior medical staff.

You will need to have completed your specialist training and be eligible for a vocational registration or general registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand. The position offers an attractive remuneration package, relocation assistance and CME package.
