Mo te turanga | About the role
Join us as part of a team working across a range of surgical specialties and subspecialties in Dunedin city, home to Otago Medical School and the lively University of Otago.
You will be exposed to several runs, including tertiary level caseloads.
This role offers the opportunity to provide healthcare across a large geographical area, ensuring a diverse range of experiences.
There is strong support for educational needs, including weekly teaching, case discussions, journal clubs, and peer review sessions.
The department has a strong academic presence, with opportunities for research and career development.

There Is Also The Possibility Of Rotations To
Cardiothoracic Surgery (one Registrar every six months)
ICU (one Registrar every six months)
We have a unionised after-hours roster with 21 registrars on rotation.
The available runs depend on the start date of the successful candidate.

Our Ideal Candidate Will Have
Registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand or eligibility for general or provisional registration.
Check your eligibility at
Interest in surgery, aiming to pursue a surgical career or gain surgical experience to support career aspirations.
Our surgical RMOs work closely with Registrars to achieve these goals.
Expressions of interest from RMOs with less than two years' experience planning to apply for the 2025 training year are welcome.

It is required that your qualifications are approved through EPIC by the Medical Council of New Zealand.
We recommend starting this process early.
