This opens in a new window.Are you a registered nurse who is interested in making a healthy difference for individuals and families affected by substance misuse? Join our dedicated team offering care to people withdrawing from alcohol and other drugs in a community setting, working part-time Monday to Friday, 8.30am – 5pm.
There are three main parts to working in CHDS:
1)Working in the Detox Walk in Clinic at Pitman House where clients are assessed for substance physical dependence
2)Completing short term community based detoxes from alcohol and other substances as well as benzodiazepine stabilisations
3)Completing the assessment process for the newSubstance Abuse Compulsory Assessment and Treatment Act (SACAT)
There is scope to complete research projects or other special interest projects that are related to the above work.
Working in CHDS consists of working autonomously while still being part of a team. There is a close bond between team members and a strong supportive culture.

Registration with the New Zealand Nursing Council as a registered nurse with a current practicing certificate is required. Having a PG Cert in mental health, experience in mental health, addictions or community nursing is desirable but not essential.
Excellent nursing assessment and crisis intervention
Demonstrate skills in liaison with other health professionals
Knowledge of concepts of risk assessment
A current drivers licence
