We have an exciting opportunity for a Ranger, (River restoration) to lead the Department's river work in the Te Awa Tupua (Whanganui River) catchment. This role will present you with the opportunity to contribute to pioneering a world first River Restoration Strategy and make a real difference to New Zealand's freshwater biodiversity.
Te Awa Tupua (Whanganui River Claims) Settlement Act 2017 ushered in a unique and ground-breaking legal framework to enhance the health and wellbeing of the Whanganui River catchment. The Settlement has gained huge national and international interest for the unique manner in which it has integrated indigenous values within a western legal framework.

As a river restoration ranger, you will quickly identify the key players in the Te Awa Tupua catchment and work with them to develop and build upon, the existing vision for a restored catchment. You will lead the crafting of measurable objectives and drive the implementation of actions to achieve those objectives drawing on your experience of delivery and reporting of operational projects.

You will need to be a skilled project manager with a work style that maintains momentum on projects to see deliverables achieved. You are someone who loves to connect technical knowledge to practical on-the-ground restoration initiatives to achieve resilient outcomes.
You will thrive in a role that is about connecting people and working in partnership. We are looking for proven relationship management experience in working across agencies, community groups and with iwi/ hapu/whanau.
