You will experience pristine wild areas of New Zealand and aid in the maintenance of visitor facilities within these areas.
You will work in a tight knit team of very dedicated individuals who strive for a positive team culture and excellence in work practices.The purpose of your role is to support the Supervisor in implementing the work plan for the Paparoa Track, Pike29 Memorial Track and the wider Pike Valley at a range of sites.As a Paparoa Ranger (H&V), you will contribute to the mahi surrounding infrastructure for Heritage and Visitors, including:Hut Warden and Summer Staff logistics and support.Maintaining the Paparoa Track Great Walk, Pike29 Track Memorial Track and Pike Valley infrastructure.Maintaining both back country and front country sites.Maintaining the 3 Great Walk huts and ensuring they are well supplied.Maintaining a variety of bridge and structure types.Maintenance of the dual use track(s).Construction/ building work when required.Assisting the wider teams when required (Biodiversity and Community, wider H&V team).You'll be required to use a wide variety of equipment essential to the delivery of the Recreation and Historic work programme.Motorcycles are the main form of transport for Rangers on the Paparoa and Pike Team due to the distances required to attend to any issues that arise (windfalls etc.
).Training will be given in each of these fields if needed.A field uniform will be provided along with all the PPE as required for the position.If you have the following attributes, we are keen to hear from you:Strong leadership skills and a calm demeanor.Excellent communication skills and a positive can-do attitude.Strong field work planning skills.Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team, whether taking the lead or contributing as a team member.Class 1 Drivers License – Full or Restricted as a minimum.Experience working on dual usage tracks with swales and shape as drainage systems.Good level of physical fitness, ideally with backcountry experience.Strong health and Safety focus.Tree Feller qualification or on a learning pathway to achieve this.Class 6 Motorcycle licence – Minimum of learner's licence.Experience riding motorcycles off road and in rough terrain.Experience working in and around helicopters.Mo te tima | About the teamYou will be joining a positive and enthusiastic team on the Paparoa Track and Pike Valley.

You will be joining a supportive team, who value their staff and invest in personal development and growth.The Paparoa and Pike H&V Team consists of 3 full time staff (Supervisor, C Band (this role) and B Band Rangers), 3 Hut wardens and 1 Summer Track Ranger seasonally.
The Greymouth and Reefton Heritage and Visitor Team consists of 8 full time staff, 4 of those being based in the Reefton field Centre.
