About the role
This position is based in in Tongariro National Park, with easy access to three ski fields, the world famous Tongariro Alpine Crossing and dozens of amazing tracks and activities around the region.
The Ranger, Community / Kaitiaki, Ao Hapori works closely with other members of the team to manage permissions, monitoring and compliance in the District. This includes a diverse range of permissions activities and operations such as those associated with the three ski fields, and transport and guiding operators.
This role will be primarily focused on delivering permissions work in Tongariro District to a high standard, in particular to lead or support;
Processing permissions and works approvals for private and commercial activities occurring on public conservation land.
Monitoring authorisations and permission contracts.
Delivering compliance and monitoring plans.
Managing relationships with concessionaires and operators in the Tongariro National Park and surrounding public conservation lands.
Supporting Resource Management Act and statutory land management work for the District.
Supporting implementation of Treaty Settlements obligations.
Developing relationships and partnerships with whanau, hapu and iwi to grow conservation.

The ideal applicant will have experience in:
Implementing statutory processes, such as permitting and consenting.
Strong relationship and networking skills, working with others.
Professional writing will be an advantage for reporting and supporting decisions.
Engaging, consulting and liaising with Tangata Whenua.
Strategic thinking and a political awareness.
Organisational skills, ability to balance competing demands, meet deadlines and have problem solving skills.
A tertiary qualification, or equivalent experience, which demonstrates ability to think critically, interpret and apply legislation, policy or management documents to a given situation.
