Permanent position

A key part of our efforts to reduce reoffending is our suite of medium intensity therapeutic programmes. These are delivered throughout New Zealand both in prisons and in the community. They are carefully designed to be effective and are delivered by trained programme facilitators.
This is a unique opportunity to have a National Strategic Oversight of our Medium Intensity Suite of Programmes. This role sits within the Psychology and Programmes team at the Department of Corrections’ National Office. This position presents the opportunity to leverage your psychology practice experience and use your knowledge in the Correctional field to lead the re-design of the community MIRP programme. The consultation and data analysis phase has been completed with the next stage moving in the session/programme design.
The person in this role would also oversee/coordinate the integrity monitoring exercise for the Medium Intensity programmes next year which will including coordinating the exercise, engaging in some but not all integrity monitoring exercises, and writing reports to the regions and SD SLT summarising the findings.
The successful candidate will have:
Experience in providing rehabilitation programmes to people who have offended

Knowledge of the evidence-based approach to Corrections’ rehabilitation

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Sound understanding of kaupapa Maori values and how they apply to rehabilitation

Sound judgement and excellent problem solving skills

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Applicants must have a minimum of a Masters degree in Psychology (Clinical or Forensic Psychology and registration with the NZ Psychologist Board in the clinical/counselling and general scope of practice).
