To be considered you must apply directly with Sheffield - ****** quoting 8691aaAbout The roleAntarctica New Zealand is redeveloping the iconic Scott Base, to support New Zealand's enduring presence in Antarctica and the Ross Sea. The new base will continue to facilitate world-leading science and better support local and deep-field science with improved efficiencies. Not surprisingly, construction in Antarctica is not straight forward, and the safety of people and the protection of the environment are paramount.Based in Christchurch, the Scott Base Redevelopment (SBR) Project Director will oversee the construction, logistics, technical and PMO teams associated with the project. Following the options analysis process, initiated after Antarctica New Zealand was unable to reach commercial terms with the preferred construction partner, the focus will be to refine detailed project plans and then oversee its delivery. The scale and complexity of this project is unprecedented for New Zealand, and this is a critical role in delivering it.Responsibilities include:Construction leadership of all aspects of the SBR project and contributing teams, to ensure the new base is delivered safely on time, to scope and within the allocated budgetContribute to organisational decision making, as a member of the Senior Leadership TeamEnsure Scott Base is fit to support world-leading science during the construction of the new baseDevelop and maintain strong relationships with internal, governance, construction and design partners and other stakeholdersA dual accountability as General Manager Assets / EngineeringSupport the SBR change management process, future proofing workplace culture, systems and processes.Skills & ExperienceCandidates of interest will have significant firsthand experience in the successful construction of large, multi-year infrastructure projects (vertical and horizontal), ideally in remote settings, with a career forged in the construction / infrastructure sector. You will be known as a very practical, hands-on and pragmatic leader who builds excellent relationships with everyone.You will have:A down to earth and tactful nature, along with an interest and passion for the environmentExpert knowledge and experience with project management in a construction environment and experience in building complex projects with limited resources to successful outcomesA seasoned understanding of construction practices, who understands the "doing" of constructionStrong operational as well as strategic leadership skills and experience, including confidence presenting the financials to board levelProven experience developing successful relationships with key stakeholders, including governmentExperience guiding teams effectively through changePolar experience would be an added bonus!Are you up for the challenge to build this challenging and high-profile project, in this small, collaborative and passionate organisation?
