Auckland Museum is a much-loved culture and heritage organisation at the heart of Auckland's identity, committed to outstanding management of its world-class collections and the employees and volunteers who tell the Museum's stories. We are Auckland's home of commemoration as well as the country's oldest research institution and a major tourist destination.
Due to the increased number of major building and associated infrastructure works currently underway or planned at Auckland Museum, our Building and Building Infrastructure division is in urgent need of an additional Project Building Facilities Technician to work on a fulltime and fixed term basis until late August 2020. This division and team are responsible for ensuring that scheduled and reactive general maintenance is performed on time and to quality standards and for the management of significant projects as per the annual Heritage Asset Management Plan.
We seek an experienced Technician who can identify potentially significant heritage maintenance issues, as well as actively anticipate potential problems with Future Museum contractors associated with a variety of jobs and repairs such as plumbing and drainage, automatic doors, lifts and the building warrant of fitness. This Technician role will coordinate job requests, hot work permits, complete H&S compliance and contractor inductions, as well as share responsibility for managing a small team of Facilities Assistants and external contractors.
To be successful in this role, you will offer;
Proven technical or mechanical work experience is essential
A background in building or plant maintenance, facilities management or technical project management would be ideal eg. such as a hospital or shopping mall environment
Some experience in successfully leading and mentoring a small team
Previous generator or boiler installation knowledge is desirable
Building systems design and/or planning software competency will also be highly advantageous
An early availability to commence is highly beneficial
The ability to work well under pressure and meet project deadlines
Flexibility with your availability, including the ability to work occasional evenings, weekends or holidays, as well as the ability to be on-call to attend any significant related building issues
A reasonable level of fitness to be capable of the physical aspects of the role, which might include climbing ladders, working at heights, building a wall or working on platforms etc
Must hold a current and full driver's license
Self-motivation, but proven effectiveness within a team
