Job Description

DEPARTMENT of WOMEN’S and CHILDREN’S HEALTH
DUNEDIN SCHOOL of MEDICINE

About the programme

The Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) is funding a Genomics Aotearoa programme entitled ‘Rakeiora – A pathfinder for genomic medicine in Aotearoa’. This programme is led by research partners – the University of Otago, the University of Auckland, the Institute of Environmental Science and Research (ESR) and Ngati Porou Hauora. The aim is to deliver a platform that enables research into genomics-informed precision medicine in the primary healthcare and hospital based healthcase sectors in Aotearoa New Zealand.
We are seeking a Programme Manager to manage this ground breaking programme. This offers an exciting opportunity to provide oversight and direction to a new, high profile and cutting-edge area of research that will benefit New Zealand and save lives.
The role

This role presents a unique opportunity to have a role in improving health outcomes for Maori communities.
You will lead the coordination of the research strategy for the programme, including liaison with key stakeholders, in particular Maori partners and collaborators. The breadth of activity in this scientific programme (encompassing tertiary and primary healthcare, genomics, IT and a heavy emphasis on congruence with Te Ao Maori), offers an exciting opportunity to make a true difference.
Your skills and experience

We are looking for someone who is passionate about our cause and has experience working positively with Maori organisations. It is essential that the successful candidate brings a proactive, collaborative approach and is able to manage the needs of both researchers and community stakeholders while respecting tikanga.
Applicants will ideally have:
Familiarity and expertise with the principles, culture and tikanga within Te Ao Maori.
Experience working with multidisciplinary projects or programmes, including the development and implementation of new systems and processes.
Experience in maintaining accurate records, collating data and writing reports.
Proactive and inclusive approach, with the ability to negotiate and resolve issues in a collaborative way.
Significant experience in project management (ideally in a relevant health or science-related research speciality) is desirable. A postgraduate qualification (MSc, PhD or equivalent) would also be an advantage.
Further details

This is a full-time (1FTE), fixed-term position until September 2022.
This role can be based anywhere in New Zealand. Travel will be required to fulfil the responsibilities of the position.
Applications quoting reference number 2001230 will close on Sunday, 16 August 2020.
