We have an exciting opportunity for a Programme Lead - Puna Mahara to join our passionate Te Ao Turoa (Natural Environment) team, within the wider Strategy and Environment Group of the Office of Te Runanga o Ngai Tahu.
Te Ao Turoa's main function across the Ngai Tahu takiwa (area) includes planning processes, state of the environment, heritage protection, tribal properties, the management of taonga resources, climate change and mahinga kai.
Reporting to the General Manager - Strategy & Environment, you will be responsible for leading a high performing team of Environmental Advisors. This will include managing staff performance, professional development and reviewing and improving systems and processes, to ensure team members have the support and flexibility they need to thrive.
The purpose of the role is to develop programme management systems for tribal property management to achieve ongoing excellence in delivering the Puna Mahara work programme. The programme of work includes Reserve Management Planning, support to administering bodies and committees and heritage protection.
A crucial function is the continuous development and review of systems and processes to ensure they are clear, efficient, and fit for purpose. The Programme Lead - Puna Mahara is responsible for effective and efficient programme execution across Puna Mahara projects, and the coordination and integration of these programmes within the wider tribal development strategy, including operational management of these programmes.
The role will involve working closely with and supporting Papatipu Runanga and their Regional Environmental Entities. Maintaining effective working relationships with Councils, government agencies and a range of stakeholders will also be crucial.
We are seeking an outstanding individual with:
Demonstrated experience in and a passion for team leadership and people management - specifically regarding cross functional/multidisciplinary teams.A minimum of 5 years' professional work experience with a demonstrated track record in project and programme management, policy or resource management work.Leadership ability in complex and politically sensitive environments.An understanding of the structures, processes and responsibilities of central and local government agencies and institutions relevant to Te Ao Turoa.A relevant tertiary degree.Experience in project and contract management.Advanced interpersonal, communication, engagement and relationship management skills.Ideally, you will also:
Have knowledge of Ngai Tahu and/or relationships with iwi Maori.Have planning experience working within local government (or similar).Be eligible for relevant professional memberships.The successful applicant will have a strong affinity for the needs and aspirations of our ultimate stakeholders, Ngai Tahu Whanui. Alongside this, they will have an understanding of, or an eagerness to, learn and engage with Ngai Tahu values and te reo Maori.
