With an exciting partnership and investment from Yamaha Motors, we are looking to build an even stronger team to deliver the next level of functionality across several commercial systems and R&D projects.
We are on an exciting growth trajectory and are looking for a Production & Manufacturing Operations Manager to provide leadership to the production team, ensuring staff are fully utilised, motivated and equipped to deliver to the strategic and tactical requirements expected from the business unit. As well as managing the Production Team to manufacture commercial grade batches of RPL's various robotic products in accordance with design specifications provided by the Research and Development (R&D) team. The role will entail:
Production management
Planning. Planning and monitoring of production schedules to ensure accurate time allocation for future production runs. Utilise the software application MRPeasy to raise, plan, track and complete production orders.
Purchasing. Working closely with the Purchasing Team to ensure all parts and components are available for production runs. Utilise the MRPeasy system to ensure stock is available for the different production projects.
Documentation. Develop, maintain and manage production procedures to allow quality production of robotic machines. This includes providing feedback to the R&D team on improvements to manufacturing drawings and the Bill of Materials (BoM) to aid in ease of manufacture and assembly. The aim being a complete package of drawings and procedures that can be handed on to a third party for outsourced manufacture.
Budget.Manage the budget for the Production Team as well as the individual production runs. Reporting back to the finance department on cashflow requirements throughout the production runs.
Outsourcing. Working with outsourcing partners to ensure they have adequate documentation and training to complete outsourcing work for the production run. Identification of further partners for outsourced assembly/manufacture.
Health and Safety.Working with the Health and safety representative to ensure the production department is safe and healthy for all team members as well as meeting all legal H&S requirements.
Reporting.Provide support to Product Leaders, Finance and senior management on providing Production Team data to assist with assessing costs of doing business, decision making and objectives.
Installation management
Leadership and management. Leading and managing the installation team (made up of a large portion of the production team) making sure they are equipped to meet the deliverables for robotic installations and commissioning.
Planning. Oversee the planning of RPL installations, including logistics for the installation team as well liaising with clients and sub-contractors.
Documentation. Develop, maintain and manage installation procedures to allow quality installation and commissioning of robotic machines. This may include feedback to R&D team if there are design changes to aid in installation and commissioning.
Health and Safety.Working with the Health and safety representative to ensure the installation and commissioning is completed in a safe and healthy way for all team members as well as meeting all legal H&S requirements.
Site management
Manage space allocation. Responsible for the allocation and optimal utilisation of workshop, R&D and production floor space within RPL buildings for various R&D and production projects. This will also include liaising with the Office Manager to determine the optimal allocation and utilisation of floor space for desk work.
Space scheduling.Planning the future space requirements to ensure that there is adequate site space available to meet the project requirements of Robotics Plus. This will mean the introduction of a fit for purpose digital space scheduling system to ensure multiple projects are delivered successfully whilst maximising available space.
Development and relocations.Be responsible for activities related to intra- and inter site relocation and moving. This will also include contributing towards the process and decisions, where appropriate, as part of site developments related to RPL buildings.
Continuous process and procedure improvements
Ensure RPL's operational processes and procedures are constantly being reviewed, challenged and modified to ensure maximise operational efficiency and delivery.
Introduce new systems that will enhance RPL's business activities and reduce operational cost through their implementation.
Beneficial experience & qualifications
Highly skilled Operations Manager with 5+ years demonstrated experience in a production and manufacturing environment
Relevant degree
Team Management experience essential
Strong business acumen, enthusiastic and ambitious
Natural and authentic leadership skills, team player and can-do attitude
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Empathy, active listening, and conflict resolution abilities
Strong proven problem-solving skills with the ability to resolve issues and manage risk
