Details of the offer

Xero is a beautiful, easy-to-use platform that helps small businesses and their accounting and bookkeeping advisors grow and thrive.

At Xero, our purpose is to make life better for people in small business, their advisors, and communities around the world. This purpose sits at the centre of everything we do. We support our people to do the best work of their lives so that they can help small businesses succeed through better tools, information and connections. Because when they succeed they make a difference, and when millions of small businesses are making a difference, the world is a more beautiful place.

The Portfolio

Architecture and Integration sit within the Technology group of Xero. Architects from the team are often embedded in a Product team where they become domain experts, guide the architecture of the solutions through close collaboration with the delivery teams and ensure the technical direction of the solutions supports the product strategy. The team is globally distributed but has key hubs in Wellington, Auckland and Melbourne. There is a focus on professional development and growing the disciple of architecture within Xero.

The Role

As the Product Architect, you will initially support the Insights team. Here you will be helping this relatively new team create products and continuously improve and scale those they already have. You will work closely with Xero's Data Science team as complex algorithms, machine learning and large datasets are the drivers behind the amazing Insights products. These products thrive when fed with high quality data, so a key aspect of the role will be collaboration with other products teams that are the source of this data.

About You

We are looking for a passionate Architect and just as important as the technical experience is the ability to be #human and take ownership of your environment. We are so lucky to have excellent people to work with and offices to work in and we'd love you to be a part of it. As a Product Architect at Xero you will utilise your leadership ability to create, articulate, mentor and advocate the vision and technical and semantic direction for a product and systems architecture.

As a Product Architect at Xero you will also have the opportunity to:
Work within the Architecture Team to define Xero's architecture strategy and long term direction.
Build strong relationships with key stakeholders such as the Development Manager and Product Manager, to ensure a shared understanding of the business requirements while championing the non functionals, architecture guidelines and strategies.
Draw on your own experiences and based on good engineering practices, you'll influence the development teams to design, build and deliver high quality features quickly, with confidence and accuracy.
Work with the development teams to identify technical debt and related issues for prioritisation and resolution. With the Development Manager, you'll define and prioritise the technical roadmap within the product backlog.
look at improving our development practices and processes, by proactively bringing new ideas into Xero.
Use your wealth of experience and knowledge to provide training, coaching and mentoring where needed.

To be successful in this role it would be great for you to have some experience with:
Measuring and designing for non-functionals, like reliability, availability, security, maintainability, performance and scalability
Being exposed to multiple software development methodologies and styles
Understanding of systems design, ideally with SaaS Products
Software development ideally C# or other Object Oriented Programming languages
Cloud architecture with AWS
Relational databases and knowledge of NoSQL databases
Applying your data and statistical analysis skills
Simplifying and articulating highly technical concepts for non technical stakeholders
Business Analysis and associated problem-solving, and critical thinking skills
Influencing innovative and positive teams with your positive attitude
Managing and prioritising varied tasks

Have fun while you do the best work of your life! We're a place where personal development, innovation, and change are not only encouraged but also celebrated. We value our people and want them to enjoy and take pride in their work.

We're a huge part of the development community and you'll find Xeros attending and speaking at conferences and hosting meetups. We're really open in our discussions at Xero, from the latest product management thinking to diversity and inclusion.

Xero is an NZ Immigration Accredited Employer and Rainbow Tick certified too.

Please include a cover letter in your application, telling us why you're a great fit for this position.
