About the role

The role of Prison Director presents an excellent opportunity for an experienced leader to manage the already established 750 bed facility of minimum to high security offenders and remand, and will also lead the establishment and management of a new 600 bed facility including a 100 bed Mental Health Facility currently under construction.

This is a critical role with key focus on managing multiple agencies and partnerships during construction and on into the future.

Focus on optimal delivery of all prison related services and continuous improvement initiatives whilst balancing care, security, health, education and rehabilitation imperatives is paramount. With the scope and accountability to drive performance you will be responsible for the leadership of all day to day operational functions and the pro-active identification and management of risk across all facets of the operation to promote the safety of all in your care.

As this expansion takes place, you will be accountable for leading through this transition with a focus on change initiatives, driving a continuous improvement culture and taking the leadership team through a period of site culture metamorphosis.

About you

By demonstrating visible leadership in all aspects of your role you will have the courage, passion and determination to deliver outstanding results, raising the bar for quality practice.
As a key member of the Regional Leadership Team, reporting to the Regional Commissioner, you will need to demonstrate significant experience at a senior level with exemplary relationship skills as you will be in partnership with agencies and the District Health Board to ensure optimum results.

We would like to hear from you if you are an experienced senior leader with;
Proven experience in a growth phase role working at both a strategic and operational level
Exceptional communication and relationship skills with an ability to influence for outcomes
In-depth knowledge of rehabilitation & re-integration best practice
A focus on lifting cultural capability, driving innovation & continuous improvement initiatives
The commitment to develop a strong leadership team dedicated to achieving outcomes & displaying our core values
A high level of understanding and anticipation of political and reputational risk
An in-depth knowledge of risk management processes and compliance requirements
Familiarity with the Treaty of Waitangi and an understanding of the factors impacting on rehabilitation & reintegration for people who have committed offences.
