Our Urban Planning and Design group provides strategic leadership on urban planning, provides best practice urban design and planning advice, leads the management of Kainga Ora's large scale strategic partnerships and works closely with place based groups, iwi, local and central government agencies and the private sector to facilitate urban development opportunities.

Ko ta matou mahi | Our Role

Our national Design team is growing along with Kainga Ora, and as such we are now looking to welcome multiple Senior and Principal Urban Designers. We have offices in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch so will consider applications from suitably qualified designers across NZ.

As a Senior member of our design team you will provide subject matter expert advice and support for the delivery of aspects of Kainga Ora's work that involve an urban design component. The workload is varied but day-to-day you could be busy;
Leading and negotiating the production of master plans for new developments Providing timely and quality urban design and masterplanning support and advice to redevelopment project teams to inform decision making and project delivery Providing design advice to the Design Review Panel, Development Managers and builder partners across projects at all scales and around the country Working on site briefs to determine the best fit of development for any given location Liaising with Local Authorities, Iwi partners and other stakeholders on masterplanning and urban design issues.
Nga pumanawatanga ou - What you will bring

As our ideal candidate you are known by your peers to be an aspirational but pragmatic urban design expert. In terms of personality, in order to fit right in with our team you will bring energy, positivity and a sense of fun to the workplace, and you love a good debate! In addition to your tertiary qualification in Architecture, Planning or Landscape Architecture and post graduate in Urban Design, you will demonstrate:
Experience in the preparation of urban design reports, including the preparation of graphic material, with strong technical drawing skills Proven negotiation skills and ability to deliver quality projects within time and budget constraints Experience working in multi-disciplinary teams on complex projects Previous experience working with the RMA and local authority consents processes Experience working within or with iwi entities and/or Maori design practices with respect to implementing Maori concepts in urban design Sound understanding of the commercial drivers of property development A customer centric approach Ability to mentor and support others in growing their understanding of urban design Outstanding relationship management, communication skills and formal presentation skills.
