Cryptographic Services maintains responsibility for an area vital to New Zealand's security and way of life by undertaking Government Communication Security Bureau's (GCSB) role to keep classified NZ Government communications secure, and is currently on a path to implement new ways of working, new systems, and improved business flows - combining together to bring what we do into the 21st century.
We're looking for a Principal and a Senior COMSEC Specialist to join our newly established Cryptographic Enablement team within the Cryptographic Services unit.
In this role you will be part of a small specialist team working in a collaborative, agile environment maintaining close relationships with vendors, contributing partners and customers. You'll work on topics and problems you won't find anywhere else.
You could be a generalist with skills across all these fields or a subject matter expert in one area with an interest across the rest – regardless we'd like to hear from you!
As the Principal COMSEC Specialist (C2/19/80) you will work across the following areas:
Cryptographic Services consultancy and advice
Maintaining and enhancing New Zealand's cryptographic programme
System design & operational support
National Representation on COMSEC
Policy and Documentation
In depth, expert customer support and problem analysis

To achieve success, we need someone with exceptional problem solving skills, strong interest in Cryptography, creativity, and pragmatism.
Ideally you will have some or all of the following areas:
Exceptional communication and relationship management skills
An understanding of the New Zealand national security system structure and processes
Sound knowledge and understanding of the COMSEC frameworks and rules overseeing the use of Cryptographic material by New Zealand agencies
A high level of attention to detail, accuracy and judgment
A Tertiary qualification in a Technology, Computer Science, Mathematics or Cryptography field

As the Senior COMSEC Specialist (C2/19/153) you will work across some or all of the following areas:
Policy, Compliance & Audit
Procurement, Equipment Provisioning and Lifecycle Management
Training
Customer support and problem analysis

To achieve success, we need someone with a strong customer focus and high service level expectations, creativity, and pragmatism.

Exceptional communication and relationship management skills, with a passion for customer, vendor and partner relationships and improving service levels
An understanding of the New Zealand national security system structure and processes
Sound knowledge and understanding of the COMSEC frameworks and rules overseeing the use of Cryptographic material by New Zealand agencies
Experience in Procurement, Training, and/or Compliance
Excellent problem solving and analysis skills
A high level of attention to detail, accuracy and judgment

To be eligible for employment within the NZIC you must have been a NZ citizen for at least 10 years. Alternatively you must hold NZ Permanent Residence or hold a current NZ Residency Class Visa and have been a citizen of UK, USA, Canada or Australia for at least 10 years.
You must be able to obtain and maintain a high level security clearance. Ordinarily to obtain this level of clearance candidates must have a 15 year checkable background in countries where meaningful and reliable checks can be undertaken. Where requisite checks are unable to be made, the candidate application may not be able to be progressed.
