Part Time Fixed Term

Will be based at Forensicare's community service at Clifton Hill but will travel to prison sites

Forensic mental health is a specialist area within the mental health service system. The services provided by Forensicare address the needs of offenders experiencing mental health issues, the mental health sector, the justice sector and the general community.
These services are delivered through three streams, inpatient services at Thomas Embling Hospital, community services through the Community Forensic Mental Health Service and prison based services at several locations.
This position will be part of Forensicare's prison services.

About the role:

The Principal Psychologist, Prison Operations (Court Reports) and is responsible for completing in-custody court reports for the Magistrates, County or Supreme Courts of Victoria. As part of the role the Principal Psychologist will be required to conduct court assessments at various sites across the Victorian prison system. In addition, they may provide supervision and training on the provision of court assessments for postgraduate students or Forensicare psychologists. As a senior professional representative, the position also provides consultancy and advice to other agencies and key stakeholders.

Duties:

Provide high level administrative, clinical, and forensic expertise to Forensicares prison operations.
Complete a high standard of court reports for the Magistrates, County or Supreme courts of Victoria.
Facilitate training in court report writing and provide supervision for postgraduate psychology students and other psychology staff.

Qualification, skills and experience:
Registered as a Psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA).

Masters or Doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology from an APS accredited course or equivalent, OR Doctorate degree in Forensic Psychology from an APS accredited course or equivalent.

Endorsement or eligibility for endorsement by AHPRA, in the areas of clinical psychology and forensic psychology.

At least ten years experience in providing a high level of services in forensic mental health and related settings.

Expertise in clinical forensic mental health practice including forensic assessments (i.e., court ordered assessments, assessment of risk for violence) and intervention with offenders and/or forensic patients.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to liaise and to consult, and to give written and verbal evidence to the courts.
