Community Facilities (CF) is committed to making great places Aucklanders love while supporting a number of related services such as asset management and renewals of existing structures and open areas.

Committed to a lifecycle approach to asset management, we work to build, maintain and renew our world class community buildings and public spaces including parks, walkways, libraries and leisure centres. As kaitiaki (guardian) of Auckland Council facilities, we play a vital role in promoting the wellbeing of our communities while also delivering strategically significant programmes.
Reporting to the Manager Design, the Principal Building Design Specialist is a subject matter expert on matters relating to construction and building design both as a designer and undertaking peer review of appointed contractors and consultants.
You’ll lead and champion the delivery of industry best practice and pragmatic value-for-money designs for project and programme delivery teams through appointed consultants and contractors. The Principal Building Design Specialist clearly defines design specifications and outcomes into contracts and is responsible for ensuring supplier designs are peer reviewed and delivered to required standards.

In particular, you’ll have a structural engineering background, as well as substantial design experience in both hands on and peer review with a full understanding of all NZ appropriate and relevant codes, regulations and by-laws.
You’ll demonstrate substantial experience in construction site performance monitoring (MSQA) on medium to large size construction sites and operational contracts and in physical works contracts (including NZS3910) along with a good understanding of professional services contracts (CCCS) including procurement and supplier relationship management.
We’ll also be looking for proven experience undertaking ‘Engineer to Contract’ or ‘Engineer’s Representative’ (NZS3910) roles as required on high risk, high value contracts and mentoring and coaching other staff involved in those roles will be advantageous.
Nga ahuatanga kei a matou: What we offer
We will offer you a career enhancing opportunity, competitive remuneration and to be part of Auckland’s meaningful history. At the forefront of our community development, you will be given the opportunity to be part of a team that is dynamic and passionate about what CF does. You will play a crucial role, not only in CF but across Auckland Council. Working 40 hours per week Monday to Friday, you will have some flexibility with how those hours are set.
If you are high performing, passionate about Auckland and the world around you and would like the chance to make tangible and visible improvements to our environment, then join us. Apply today (telling us why you are interested in and right for this opportunity) by cover letter along with your CV.
Applications close Tuesday, 7th April 2020

This role is deemed safety sensitive and, in line with Auckland Council policy, you will be required to complete pre-employment drug & alcohol testing.

Auckland Council is an equal opportunity employer (EOE) and we are committed to providing a working environment that embraces and values diversity and inclusion.
