Position Title: Mahi Whakaara Youth Programme - Pou Awhina Role Pou Awhina Reports To: Programme Manager/Coordinator Location: Wellington Employment Type: Fixed Term/Contractor role (Jan-Apr 2025) Location: Wellington Central Purpose of the Role The Mahi Whakaara-BCATS Programme - Pou Awhina Role plays a pivotal role in supporting the delivery of kaupapa Maori Mahi Whakaara Youth Programme - Pou Awhina Roles that inspire, empower, and develop rangatahi.
This role combines cultural guidance, mentorship, and practical support to ensure the programmes are engaging, inclusive, and aligned with tikanga Maori values.
The Pou Awhina will work closely with programme staff, rangatahi, whanau, government, youth and community stakeholders to create a positive, culturally safe, and supportive environment that nurtures growth and belonging.
Qualifications and Experience • Essential: o Strong understanding and practice of tikanga Maori, te reo Maori, and matauranga Maori.
o Experience working with rangatahi in community, education, or youth development settings.
o Proven ability to build and maintain positive relationships.
• Desirable: o Knowledge of youth development principles, including Te Whare Tapa Wha and other Maori frameworks.
o Previous experience in programme facilitation or mentoring roles.
