About the opportunity:Our client is looking to hire a full-time Patent Attorney with great communication skills who has the ability to explain, clarify and simplify complex technical information. This opportunity is extended to applicants that are partially qualified.
Role description:The ideal candidate will have legal and scientific knowledge, with a high level of interest in intellectual property. They must also be able to articulate information in a clear and concise manner. The work is varied and involves most areas of intellectual property, with emphasis on patents.
Responsibilities will include:Drafting and filing applications for patent, trade mark and design protectionArguing intellectual property applications through the Patent Office systems in NZ and overseas, working closely with overseas attorneys and lawyersProvide general legal advice on intellectual property rightsConduct searches as to whether ideas, designs and brands are unique enough to protectEnforce intellectual property rights against infringers, for example issuing cease and desist letters and assisting on court claimsChallenging the validity of intellectual property rights, for example opposing patents and trade marks at IPONZAdvising clients on intellectual property management and strategy
This role will suit someone with the following background/experience/qualifications:
Fully or partially qualified as a NZ patent attorney2 years experience (if part qualified)Good written and verbal communication skillsA can do attitudeDisplays a creative approach to the work
