The Oxy Cutter/ Welder is responsible for working safely and efficiently, including but not limited to: Receiving and sorting material, ensuring handling is kept to a minimum. Ensure that the work area is safe and ready for cutting. This includes cleaning the area, removing any flammable materials, and setting up protective barriers. Use the right type of cutting equipment for the job, including the type of oxy-fuel gas, nozzle size, and other variables. Set up and calibrate the cutting equipment, including checking gas pressures, adjusting the nozzle, and ensuring proper ventilation. Use the cutting equipment to cut scrap metal according to the required specifications. This includes adjusting the flame temperature and cutting speed as needed. Separate different types of metals and materials by identifying and separating ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Selecting, cleaning and preparing metal stock Cutting marked-out metal sections and shapes using hand tools, flame cutting torches and metal cutting machines Shaping and bending metal sections and pipes using hand and machine tools, and by heating and hammering Aligning parts to be joined using hand tools and measuring instruments Joining metal sections using various welding techniques, bolting and riveting Examining welds for width of bead, penetration and precision Finishing products by cleaning, polishing, filing and bathing in acidic solutions Cleaning and smoothing welds by filing, chiselling and grinding Fabricates and repairs metal products using various welding techniques. Sort the scrap metal according to size, type, and condition for further processing and recycling. Regularly inspect and maintain the equipment to ensure it remains in good working order. This includes cleaning and replacing parts as needed. Follow all safety protocols to ensure a safe work environment. This includes wearing protective gear, using safety equipment such as goggles and gloves, and following proper ventilation procedures. Communicate effectively with colleagues and supervisors to ensure that work is completed on time and to the required standards. Perform any other tasks at the employer's discretion. Health, Safety, Environment and Quality (HSEQ) Responsibilities: Know the company's vision with respect to HSEQ standards, behaviours and performance. Participate in the company's safety-first culture that supports continuous HSEQ improvement and participate in company-wide programs. Ensure duties of care obligations are met and that your conduct in the workplace occurs in a safe manner at all times. Participate in processes regarding risk management compliance and internal controls to ensure operations and legal HSEQ risks are effectively managed and minimised. Participate in training to obtain the appropriate skills and experience to safely and competently perform role. Adhere to Phoenix policies and procedures at all times. General Responsibilities: Advance the company's vision, mission, and values in all dealings and decisions to translate the formation of the company's culture. Participate in Communications/Marketing initiatives to effectively resource the business and meet strategic objectives. Develop strategies, plans, and allocate resources to ensure corporate governance. Implement strategies and manage standards so that effective customer service is achieved to both internal and external customers. Comply with all statutory obligations and review safety procedures continuously. Undertake any other duties, accountabilities and responsibilities as directed. Skills, Knowledge, Experience & Qualifications: Familiarity with equipment and associated cutting tools. Proficiency in safely operating and maintaining the cutting equipment. Ability to perform repairs and replacements as required. Physically fit with the ability to lift and move heavy objects up to 20kg. Knowledge of yard safety rules and methods Time management skills Reliable and hardworking Relevant work experience is preferred, but not compulsory. 3 years of secondary education is preferred. Useful experience in technical or vocational training. Any tertiary qualification is desirable but not essential. Hours of Work: A minimum of 40 hours per week is guaranteed.
