PRIMARY OBJECTIVES

optimize our clients operational and manufacturing capacity by implementing best practice manufacturing processes;
produce and maintain an appropriate stock of BTM and other products in accordance with projected demand;
in collaboration with the R&D Manager and QA Manager, ensure the seamless introduction of new production equipment in accordance with all QA and Regulatory requirements; and
manage all facilities at Port Melbourne including,inter alia, plant, buildings, security, telecommunications, energy, air conditioning, maintenance, renovations etc.

The positions raison dtre is to drive sustainable growth in manufacturing through a systems-driven approach to business management in short, ensuring the company has best in class operational systems and processes to enable the Port Melbourne headquarters to produce high quality volumes of BTM, Hernia and other products for the global market.
The COO provides senior leadership, strategic direction and managerial oversight for all operational systems and engineering processes that directly impact or support our clients manufacturing activities. The role will drive the development and creation of new production/ logistical protocols, processes and procedures and ensure the feasibility of any new initiatives. The COO will refine and enhance current operational systems with the intent to maximize efficiency and effectiveness, whilst ensuring all activities are conducted in compliance with Regulatory and QA requirements.
The COO reinforces an organisational culture of innovation, collaboration, effective risk management and employee/ product safety, open communication/ information flow, and team engagement.

Production Manager (plus Production Operators)
Process Engineer
Mechanical Engineer
Logistics and Supply Chain Manager
Facilities/ Project Manager

Indirect Reports:
Quality Control Tester

Required Experience:
5+ years in an operational leadership position, preferably in the medical device/ biotech industry.
Experience leading change, preferably in a start up or rapidly growing biotech organisation
Experience in developing and implementing complex operational plans across multiple disciplines, ensuring collaboration and cooperation among key stakeholders eg R&D, QA, Engineering, Finance etc.
Experience building, leading and managing high-functioning project or other teams

Strong communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively in multicultural and multidisciplinary work teams.
Excellent leadership, coaching and mentoring skills.
Ability to select, develop, and manage professional and operational staff members.
Ability to delegate appropriately and monitor activities to achieve optimal efficiency whilst mitigating business risk.
Strong analytical skills including the ability to capture and massage data to monitor operational activities, support decision-making and forecast the operational impact of planned changes.
Demonstrated resourcefulness, including the ability to network effectively and leverage business partnerships to identify and achieve best practice solutions.
Ability to initiate, implement, promote, and manage ongoing changes and refinements to operational processes and systems.
Demonstrated commitment to Workplace Health and Safety, including good knowledge of and strict adherence to all industry codes of practice and our clients health and safety guidelines, and evidence of actively promoting a Safety culture.

Educational Background:
Tertiary qualifications in Biochemistry/ Bioscience, Engineering, Commerce/ Business, or equivalent in industry training and experience.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
Ensure timely, appropriately detailed, and accurate communication to internal and external stakeholders and business partners, including suppliers
Develop strong collaborative relationships, particularly with R&D, QA, and Finance
Comply with all Company quality standards, procedures, and workplace health and safety requirements
Ensure the maintenance of ISO 13485 procedures for regulatory and quality functions and strict compliance with our clients Quality Management system.
