Mo te Tari o te Kaitiaki Mana Tangata – About the Office of the Ombudsman
As an independent Officer of Parliament, the Chief Ombudsman works to ensure people are treated fairly by handling complaints against government agencies and encouraging good administration. As part of his role, the Chief Ombudsman monitors and inspects places of detention for cruel and inhuman treatment under the United Nations Optional Protocol to the Convention against Torture (OPCAT).
Mo to matou tira – About our team
As our jurisdictions have expanded we are establishing a new OPCAT team responsible for the inspection of private aged care facilities throughout New Zealand. Led by the Manager OPCAT, this small team of Inspectors require extensive administrative support to enable them to undertake this important work.
Mo te turanga – About the role
The OPCAT Programme and Administration Officer will provide coordination, administration and logistics support to Inspectors. This includes preparing and tracking budget documentation, and coordinating activities, meetings and resources to support the successful delivery of the inspections programme. You will make travel arrangements for the team and prepare inspections programme planning documentation to help keep the team on track.

To be successful in this role you will have:
Significant experience in a similar administration or programme coordination role.
Understanding and experience with project management methodology.
Superior planning and organisational skills with strong attention to detail.
The ability to work effectively across multiple projects and activities in a fast-paced and highly collaborative environment.
Excellent interpersonal and relationship management skills with a willingness to contribute to a constructive, positive team environment.
High level of integrity and discretion.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
