We have established an excellent reputation in the traditional fields of the discipline, and have strong collaborative links with research groups and industry within New Zealand and across the world.Position 1: Who are we looking for?This is a significant opportunity to work with a diverse team tasked with the development and initiation of a new type of design education at New Zealand’s largest and best resourced University.The ideal candidates will be dynamic and creative educators who are an experienced teacher and researcher in the field of design. They will identify with the vision for a new model of Design education that combines cultural and social investigation, balances creative and entrepreneurial engagement, challenges technological adoption and commits to the inevitability of change with courage and positivity.The candidates will work alongside the Programme Lead to develop and build on the new curriculum and research portfolio. They will be able to respond to the challenges involved in curriculum delivery while helping to develop a post-graduate programme capable of producing innovative research, which is both connected to industry and responsive to social needs.The Design Programme is built around four main thematic areas of study and practice using a combination of approaches and methodologies relating to service, speculative and game design. The candidate will collaborate with other design academics, technicians and support staff to ensure an integrated and balanced experience for the students at a masters level. The candidate will be inspired and capable of developing and delivering new curriculum in key areas such as Design Research Methodologies, Design Enterprise, Design Communities, Sustainable Design Impacts, Speculative Design and Emerging Technologies.A PhD in design or a related discipline is required for these positions. Alternatively, we will also consider applicants with relevant industry/professional experience.Position 2: An opportunity for leadershipIn addition to the above, we are looking to appoint one of the Senior Lecturers positions with leadership responsibilities as a Programme lead. This is an exceptional opportunity for a dynamic and creative leader in the field of design, to articulate and operationalise a strong vision of the future of design. The ideal candidate will have high-level skills in the development of curricula, pedagogy and scholarship. In addition, they will demonstrate the business acumen required to plan and manage resources, spaces and support activities to meet the University’s financial performance requirements and secure the sustainability of the Programme.With outstanding communication and collaborative skills, the appointed Senior Lecturer will be enthusiastic about building relationships to enable interdisciplinary and cross-faculty collaborations in both teaching and research, demonstrating the relevance and deep engagement with industry.Work with usThe appointees will be teaching and research-focused and be required to undertake high-quality research, researcher supervision and teaching in their area of specialisation. They will be committed to the development and delivery of high-quality curricula and courses and have excellent communication skills.
