The Role
The Senior Ranger Recreation/Historic is a unique and exciting role that forms part of the district leadership team. It is responsible for the strategic planning and prioritisation of the recreation and historic work program for the Whanganui National Park and surrounding areas within our District.
The key focus is planning and work scheduling as well as managing visitor safety risks and number crunching/budget management. Lucky enough you will get to offset the numbers with an element of field assessments so that you can understand the landscape and logistical challenges that this role manages, it really is an amazing place to be apart of and work amongst.
A major component of your work will be helping your team to develop and succeed in their own work. In this Senior Ranger position, you need to have an eye for detail, a willingness to work towards continuous improvement, and plenty of drive and initiative. Health, safety and the wellbeing for staff is a high priority
A bit about you
As the Senior Ranger, Rec/Historic you ideally have a background in recreation (building or maintenance) but understanding the historic landscapes across the Whanganui district is important. You will have worked effectively with computer-based asset management systems and be able to navigate around an excel spreadsheet.
We're looking for a positive, outgoing personality, someone who enjoys working within a close-knit team. Your ability to think strategically and act operationally will contribute to the successful planning and delivery of work programs across the district and includes a natural ability to switch between tasks effortlessly.
There can be times when the workload will be high so you will need to be able to remain calm and focused and work well under pressure, you will be confident interacting with people from all walks of life. Having an understand of the Iwi partners in the Whanganui district, te reo and tikanga maori could be advantageous to building those relationships to integrate amongst the local communities to understand their values with our work.

A current full driving license.
