Job Specification

Rarely does a role like this become available in DOC located in the Whanganui District. Are you a natural organiser who loves working with others and coordinating teams and large work programs? Are you looking for an interesting new challenge that offers the chance to contribute to conservation and the protection of New Zealand's unique natural environment?
The Role
The Supervisor Biodiversity is a unique and exciting role that forms part of the district leadership team. It is responsible for the leadership and delivery of the biodiversity work program for the Whanganui National Park and surrounding areas within our District.
You will supervise and manage a team of 6 field staff, planning and organising their work program that encompasses the Whanganui National Park and traversing the iconic Whanganui River to protect the unique landscape we know as Te Awa Tupua.
A major component of your work will be helping your team to develop and succeed in their own work. In this Supervisor position, you need to have an eye for detail, a willingness to work towards continuous improvement, and plenty of drive and initiative. Health, safety and the wellbeing of your staff is a high priority
A bit about you
As the Supervisor for the Biodiversity team you ideally have an interest in delivering on conservation values, that are for the long-term improvements of our flora and fauna.
We're looking for a positive, outgoing personality, someone who enjoys working within a close-knit team. Your ability to think strategically and act operationally will contribute to the successful planning and delivery of work programs across the district, and includes a natural ability to switch between tasks effortlessly.
There can be times when the workload will be high so you will need to be able to remain calm and focused and work well under pressure, you will be confident interacting with people from all walks of life,. Having an understand of the Iwi partners in the Whanganui district, te reo and tikanga maori could be advantageous to building those relationships to integrate amongst the local communities to understand their values with our work.
