We are Auckland's home of commemoration as well as the country's oldest research institution and a major tourist destination.We have an exciting full time but fixed term opportunity for a qualified Conservator, to join the Relocations team within the Collections and Research Directorate. Reporting to the Collection Storage Optimisation Manager, the Project Conservator, Relocations will determine and implement an effective conservation approach in the planning and implementation of works through appropriate preventive and remedial conservation to ensure stability of objects for packing and relocation. Work will include surveying the condition of collections, providing advice and appropriate remedial strategies, as well as preparing and packing collection objects for transfer to offsite facilities or within the Museum.To be successful in this short-term role, you will offer:A tertiary qualification in the Conservation of Cultural MaterialsCurrent membership of NZCCM or an internationally recognized Conservation affiliationA minimum of 3-4 years conservation experiencePrior experience in a team undertaking bulk packing and relocation of museum collection materialProven effective time management skillsUp-to-date knowledge of current professional thinking around Preventive ConservationComputer competency to at least an intermediate level in MS Office Word, Excel and Collection Management DatabasesClosing Date: Sunday, 19 January 2020You must be currently eligible to work in New Zealand or have the necessary skill set to meet current classifications to secure a work permit for New Zealand, to apply for this position.Auckland Museum offers a rich and fulfilling work life where we embrace diversity and nurture our bicultural capability as demonstrated in our Teu le Va and He Korahi Maori strategies.
