Are you interested in being involved in aleading edge full time course of study that places emphasis on skills requiredfor a wide range of building construction tasks and delivering a programme thatis both theory and practice based? Are you interested in working with tauira(students) whilst they build a re-locatable house as part of the programme?
If so, and you have proven successfulexperience in the building industry, you may be the person we are looking for.
The overarching objective of the programme isto give tauira the opportunity to experience trade education and in particularthat of carpentry. The programme is taught in a unique Maori learningenvironment that is based on the Maori principles of whanaungatanga (familyrelationships), rangatiratanga (leadership), tuhonohono (engagement) andmauitanga (innovation).
Theprogramme teaches students about:
Health & Safety requirements;
Operating power, portable and handtools used in the construction process;
The functions of building, legislationand compliance;
The Building Act; and
Building a single level,timber-framed, relocatable house as part of a team.
The ideal candidate for this positionwill hold:
aDiploma Level 5 qualification in Carpentry;
anLBP (Licenced Building Practitioner) and maintain the LBP licence;
aclean Full NZ Drivers’ Licence
Ideally, the successful candidate willhave or be able to gain:
acurrent first aid certificate;
aNational Certificate in Adult Tertiary Teaching Level 5 or equivalent;
It is preferred the ideal candidate have:
A minimum of 2 year’s experience incarpentry
A minimum of 2 year’s experience inteaching adults
Experience working with Maori and TangataPasifika people
You will also need to have experience in theindustry related sector, work placement, work skill development or careerplanning and development; as well as teaching experience and experience workingwith Maori and Pacific Island people.
