We are looking for Mental Health Assistants to join the team in ADHB's Adult Acute Unit - Te Whetu Tawera (TWT). TWT serves the population of central Auckland. It is a 58 bed unit which includes a 12 bed ICU.
TWT provides assessment, diagnosis and treatment for adults with serious mental illness and severe psychological disorders. We work in collaboration with the service user, their family / whanau and the community clinical teams to promote recovery.
As a Mental Health Assistant in TWT you will be expected to work across all wards under the supervision of Registered Nurses while providing quality care to service users who are experiencing distress.
You'll be part of a team that supports service users in daily living activities, as well as participation in group activities such as team sports, and arts and crafts activities. The MHA is a key member of the team and is expected to undertake tasks that contribute to the general tidiness, hygiene and positive ward environment.
To be successful in this role you will be able to demonstrate high levels of personal integrity, flexibility, with an ability to work closely with service users and their families while under supervision of a Registered Nurse. It is imperative you have an ability to work in a team, and have an understanding of mental illness and its effects on service users and their families. Fluency in both written and verbal English is essential.
Availability to work rostered shifts is requiredto ensure 24 hour care is provided.
This role is 40hrs per week, Monday to Sunday. Availability to work all shifts, including nights, is essential.
You must have completed the Level 4 Certificate in Mental Health Support Work or are due to complete the course. Please attach a copy of your certificate or evidence of your enrolment in the course along with your CV and Cover Letter to your application.
