Details of the offer

Work at the forefront of innovative government thinking in the recently established Provincial Development Unit (PDU)
Manage a varied portfolio of contracts with opportunities for travel and client engagement
Key role to realise successful programme delivery
Help build inclusive and sustainable regional communities
Wellington, Tauranga or Gisbourne based options

About the role
Are you an experienced contract manager, perhaps with a legal background, looking for a sea change? Do you want to enjoy coming to work every day, work somewhere where you will be highly valued, and engage with talented and inspiring people?
The PDU works at the forefront of government thinking, balancing innovation and delivery with prudence and rigour. We have great systems, smart and passionate people, and we do soul satisfying work.
We are well over the halfway point in our program to invest up to $3billion in projects to reinvigorate our regions. As the number of approved projects increases, so does our number of contracts. We now have over 500 covering everything from energy to tourism.
Our contract management team is expanding and we're looking for two permanent full time senior team members ideally with an intermediate level legal background or commercial equivalent.
Our contract managers are proactive, creative thinkers who work as much in regional engagement and deal structuring as they do in administration. They are strategic thinkers with an eye for detail and delivery. They're “people people” who enjoy working with stakeholders, are customer focused, and are passionate about growing sustainable, flourishing communities.
We want to hear from experienced individuals with a passion for the regions who are comfortable working with ambiguity, have strong contract management and relationship building skills, and are holistic thinkers who can still deliver the detail. You will use your customer focus to manage relationships with contracted parties and other stakeholders to facilitate the government's successful investment. You will develop relationships with contracted parties in the regions, monitoring the progress of their contracts and projects. You will identify risks, benefits and opportunities, and enable the change required for these to be successful. You will contribute to creating and managing funding contracts, monitoring deliverables and payments, delivering monthly reporting, assisting with Ministerial briefings and media communications, and celebrating success.
We are open to considering either Tauranga, Gisborne or Wellington based. Please indicate your location of preference in your cover letter.
Skills and experience:To be successful in the role you will need:
Experience with contract and client management, including risk management
A strong track record of achieving project delivery or programme goals including reporting
Significant experience in client relationship management
Experience in making business recommendations with financial impacts
Substantial experience working in complex environments involving analysis, internal consultation and interaction with decision makers
Demonstrable experience establishing and maintaining strong relationships at all levels of an organisation, developing trust and credibility
Strong written and verbal communication skills coupled with the ability to influence and persuade others to move toward a common vision or goal
An eye for detail and willingness to capture detailed information and meet reporting deadlines
A collaborative approach to achieving outcomes
A good understanding of how government functions
Resilience, tenacity and comfort with ambiguity
To be a team player, working collaboratively with and through others
Tertiary qualification
The legal right to live and work in New Zealand

About the Unit
The PDU has been established to be the focal point within Government for regional economic development, and to design and implement the PGF.
Through the PGF central government has committed to investing $1billion per annum over 3 years in regional economic development with the aim of lifting productivity potential in the provinces. Its priorities are to enhance economic development opportunities, create sustainable jobs, enable Maori to reach their full potential, boost social inclusion and participation, build resilient communities, and help meet New Zealand's climate change targets.
