Casual Supervisor – Tai Aroha Special Treatment Unit (Community based)

The Supervisor is a member of a multi disciplinary team who are responsible for the development and implementation of the therapeutic treatment programme.
Tai Aroha is an intensive specialist residential rehabilitation treatment programme targeting high risk community-based offenders (residents), who have multiple treatment needs related to violence. The overall objectives of the programme are to reduce participants’ risk of serious reoffending and increase their capacity to live socially responsible and fulfilling lifestyles.
The programme aims to provide a culturally responsive rehabilitation experience in particular for Maori participants by respecting and incorporating Tikanga Maori and kaupapa Maori concepts within and alongside Western based rehabilitation practices.
The purpose of the role is to support residents within the residential setting and during external activities.
The person/s we are looking for will:
-Have the ability to communicate effectively
-Have the ability to build rapport with offenders
-Remain calm and measured in pressure situations
-Be vigilant and security conscious, while respecting residential protocols
-Be able to work as part of a team
-Take an objective, non-judgemental approach to offenders, demonstrating a degree of empathy in upholding rules and regulations
-Experienced outdoor person and must be physically fit in order to support our residents during offsite activities (river paddles, hiking tracks both easy and difficult terrain
The successful applicant will operate effectively in a Maori cultural environment demonstrating a calm demeanour and resilience in our offender centric setting.
Strong problem-solving, team-building and influencing skills are essential, as is the ability to model pro-social behaviour and to represent the therapeutic community in a positive manner.

A full driver’s licence is essential, with the ability to drive an automatic and manual vehicle.
This is a “Casual” as and when required vacancy. Hourly pay rate $26.97.
