The Ministry for Pacific Peoples is the principal advisor on policies and interventions that improve outcomes for Pacific Peoples. We bring the Pacific voice, perspective and understanding into policy. We are the guardians and the caretakers of Pacific knowledge, culture and identity, and we support and take stewardship over our Pacific communities and peoples.
We have a challenging yet rewarding opportunity in our National Office in Wellington for an experienced leader and professional in the role of Director, Languages. This role exists to lead and manage the work of the Languages Unit including leadership of the team and to provide advice and reporting to our Senior Leadership team - Tautua, Ministers and stakeholders. In this role you will be required to:
funding community-based Pacific languages initiatives, programmes and courses
The role and mission of the Head of Unit is critical as they will be responsible for developing the All of Government Languages Strategy. The Ministry needs someone who can hit the ground running and who will know what needs to be done and can deliver. You will have strong interpersonal skills and be able to communicate to various audiences, as well as have sound experience in Policy and providing policy advice.
About you
You will have a Tertiary qualification or a related field and have a minimum of 10 years relevant experience working with the public sector in Senior roles. You will have an excellent understanding and awareness of the public sector context in which the Ministry for Pacific Peoples operates. You must be good at communicating the big picture as well as getting into the detail and delivering on initiatives and be fluent in a Pacific language and have some knowledge of and empathy for the organisation's journey and values. You will have a sound working knowledge of key issues impacting Pacific languages development and regeneration.
